Learning From Our Little Ones
Hey, ya'll! You know, it's amazing what you can learn from your children if you just sit back and watch them for a while. I've been thinking a lot lately about our walk as Christians and how it can be compared to what I see in the growth of my boys. It wasn't until my babies were born that I could even get a glimpse of how much God loves us, His children. (Romans 8:16 "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God...") From the minute I laid eyes on them, I knew there wasn't anything I wouldn't do to insure their health, safety, and happiness. And don't you know that's what God wants for us too? (Luke 12:32 "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.": Matthew 7:7 "Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you."; John 10:10 "...I came that theymight have life and might have it more abundantly.")
Holden, who's now nine months, is still. in babyhood - just beginning to learn about the world around him, and what his part in it might be. So similar to "baby Christians", who are fascinated with everything they see and hear, but not equipped to understand very much of it. Holden's language is beginning to develop, and it reminds me of my own early attempts to communicate with God. He babbles on in his own little way, occasionally making himself understood, and getting easily frustrated when it seems that I'm not listening. He may play happily by himself for awhile, and as long as everything's going okay, he doesn't even seem to notice I'm around. But the moment he senses he's in a jam, one of the few words he knows, "Mama!", can be heard loud and clear. When I reach to rescue him, he's ever-so-grateful and full of affection, until something better grabs his attention. He's completely oblivious to the fact that I'm ultimately responsible for meeting his needs (Philippians 4:19 "And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.") He does, however, trust me completely and happily goes wherever I drag him off to - around the house, into town, or across the country. (Proverbs 2:5, 6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do, not lean on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths strait."; Psalm 56.11 "in God I have put my trust, I shall not. be afraid..:) See what I mean? We could learn a lot from these little ones!!
